Starting on April 2, 2020, every Thursday we feature work of our project, residency, and fellowship alumni on our social media channels. The series includes videos, audio pieces, texts, apps, and other work intended or suitable for online experience. Thursday Tableau addresses themes of interconnectivity, empathy, and future scenarios.

Interconnectivity because we are reminded of the fragility of our everyday systems and how deeper understanding of nature should be emphasized. Empathy to remind us that we are not alone, and should not leave anyone to suffer. Future is not simply predetermined: the richer the artistic speculations, the more hope we have in coping with current and upcoming hardships.

This look into the archives of the FCINY and the artists affiliated with the institute is a part of our new initiatives responding to the challenges posed by the global coronavirus pandemic. For thirty years, the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York has brought together visual arts professionals, organizations and audiences through residency and fellowship programs and topical projects. As times are changing, we too are reflecting on the current situation and work on reformulating our programs for a new future.
